How is December upon us already?! November was the biggest blur with fairs, pop up shops, setting up my workshops, orders and moving house to boot. That being said I need to embrace that the festive season is here and therefore not long until gift giving. Tis’ the season for a holiday gift guide don’t you agree?! If you’re stuck for ideas and pushed for time to get your thinking cap on then hopefully these curations will help you with some much needed inspiration. All of these gorgeous items are from Etsy which means they’re all made by independent designer makers which (being one myself) I think is a great way to shop at Christmas. We all appreciate your support so much and you can rest in the knowledge that so much time and effort has gone into each item!
Exciting new things have landed in my shop! If you follow me on Instagram you may have already been seeing peeks of the new product I’ve been designing and recently had back from print. I always love escaping the screen and general to do lists and setting aside a few creative days to get my inks and paints out and go crazy with the brushes & usually my clothes as a bi product. Weirdly I come up with a lot of my ideas when I’m swimming on Wednesday mornings which makes me think I should be expensing that activity! Normally I fill my work space with a forest’s worth of paper (don’t panic, I recycle) and then come back a day later to cut through the clutter and pick out the best bits that could be turned into something great! There’s a mixture of illustrations and brush lettering with some fun and quirky sentiments which I hope you lovely people will enjoy.
Well friends it’s my birthday today and the final year of my twenties (sob sob). Knowing this fact is a massive improvement on a few months ago when I whole heartedly told someone I was 26. Oh dear, what a shock to realise that wasn’t the case when I did the maths! Anyone else struggle with keeping up with how old you are??
Anyway today isn’t going to be super flashy. For starters I’ll be out the house before 9am to set up for church but it’s pretty tip top to be spending the day with church family to be honest, along with my parents who’ll be coming up for lunch. With all the Blogtacular, workshops and Venice trip (did I mention I’m headed there for work eeek) craziness I’ve had to postpone full on celebrations to next Friday but In the spirit of celebrating another year closer to 30 and another year wiser as they say, I’ve decided to treat you all to a mega giveaway of goodies! You can win ALL of the above (worth over £100) in one fell swoop, perfect for all you paper & stationery lovers out there…I know you’re out there. I’ve picked out all my faves from the shop for you to get your hands on, simply by entering at the end of this post. There are some compulsory ways to enter along with some optional extras for bonus entries.
Well, my new website is finally here, after so many months of back and forth and pestering my web designer husband to keep cracking on in any spare minute he had. Building a new website is like being led down a rabbit warren. Changing one thing means you realise you need to change something else which in turn sets you onto something else. I feel like I’ve been pregnant with this site for all these months! At least now I finally have my pretty bundle of joy eh? Apologies to any of you that visited my site when it was down last week. We had some issues but they’re all sorted now, phew!
Well we’re now in the full throws of January, back into routine and carting hot water bottles to bed feels less sparkly now the festive season is over. Thankfully I’ve broken back into things relatively gently which has made the transition much easier. It’s also given me a bit of space for planning, which involves some day dreaming and list making. I’m not the best planner past the month in hand. Thinking about the coming year as a whole seems overwhelming and in some ways scary to plan too much as so many things change over the course of time. I’m trying to have more of a framework for life and work though just to get a better sense of prioritising.
I feel like a huge hypocrite wheeling out gift guides when I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping yet! On the other hand it has to be done so why hide. I’ve been mulling over some ideas for three different categories but perhaps I might just happen to fall into all three. Fancy that! I hope they provide some inspiration for your shopping adventures and seeing as it’s all online it’s also fuss free. I used to love the action of going out to Christmas shop. It seemed to make me feel more festive and in the spirit of things but now I can’t think of anything I’d rather not be doing at this time of year. The same with shopping all year round really. I’m definitely an online kind of girl. Enjoy…
Today I’d like to introduce you to Maker Monthly, a concept that definitely ticks all my boxes! If you love stationery as much as I do (and I know lots of you do) then you’ll probably get a little heart flutter to learn about these monthly subscription boxes, filled with premium notebooks, art supplies and creative curiosities delivered straight to your door. It’s the best post you’re likely to receive and with a different selection each month it will keep you on your toes waiting for the next paper party to drop through your letterbox.
It’s time for another DIY and this one really is easy! I know there are lots of stationery nerds out there, just like me. You love checking out all the different coloured pencils and stocking up on an amount of notebooks that even a writer couldn’t get through. But they’re so pretty, right?! This little DIY is for you. Marble, yes please and copper, yes please. Two big trends we’ve all been loving packaged nicely into one book and some matching geometric paper clips.
Be warned you may well get the urge to cover everything in sticky marble and copper paper. Try your best to resist. I know it’s tough.
Here are some little snapshots of inspiration I’ve found out and about recently. From the top…
Great recipe books with pop art covers. There’s something quite comforting about their retro feel. The Leon series can be found in Waterstones.
