Christmas Feasting with Sainsbury’s Home

I may be an annual griever of reduced light hours and Vitamin D but one thing that makes up for it is getting cosy inside over a meal with friends.In Summer it’s all BBQs and picnics in the park but come Winter it’s so satisfying to gather around a candlelit table inside, eat, drink and be merry! The run up to Christmas usually provides even more excuses for that and I’m 100% a sucker for a spot of table styling. It doesn’t need to be stuffy or complicated but it’s nice to make a little extra effort in the festive season.

I’ve had some help from Sainsbury’s Home to put together a spot of festive table inspiration along with some easy peasy DIY decoration ideas. They have a lovely range of products to suit all tastes, along with some added Christmas touches to bring your home and table to life! As you can imagine they’re all very affordable and everything I’ve included could very easily be whipped out through any other season too. Easy ideas to style a Festive Table

Contrasting dinnerware details

Add interest by picking bowls and plates from different ranges. Mix up the colours and textures for more depth. In this instance I used the Wavy Rim Putty Dinner Plates paired with the Highland Embossed Cereal Bowls.

Tie it together with a table runner

I always think table runners help add some flow to a table. I sourced this earthy linen material which was just cut to the correct size. The linen texture and raw, frayed edges makes for a laid back, rustic vibe hence no need for the faff of iron. Creases just add to the vibe!

Stay comfy

If you have hard chairs then it takes all of about 20 minutes to induce numb bums. Keep your guests wanting to stay around the table long into the evening with some seat cushions. These Kanso Living Round Seat Cushions are neutral enough to go with any chair or table decor.

Stay Cosy

Have some toasty blankets at the ready for your guests to cuddle up in as the night goes on. I’m not sure I can think of a more fitting blanket for this time of year than the Highlands Faux Rabbit Fur Throw and I can confirm it’s unimaginably soft! An eye catching table centre

If you want to make sure your table has the ‘wow’ factor then it’s all about the table centre. Why not use some faux foliage that you can then reuse around your home afterwards. These Winters Cabin Cotton Spray Stems are great for this and I added these hanging dried oranges to make add extra festive details.

Simply thread a large needle with some embroidery thread and pierce through the dried orange.

Once the thread is through to the other side, create a loop and tie in a double knot so they can be hung.

Make it personal

I’m all about a handwritten place name. Not only does it mean you can create a good dynamic with where people are sitting but it also makes them feel special that you’ve taken a moment to write their name on a card. I love these Noir House Place Name Holders. What a sweet and thoughtful detail to add to your table.

Fancy pants napkins

Is it just me or does a dinner feel about 50 times more special when the napkins come out? Why not present them nicely by creating your own napkin ring eh?

Start by tying a double knot in a length of twine and then threading on 9 wooden beads

Then tie a double knot at the end and cut, leaving extra for tying.

Bring the outside in

Add greenery wherever you can! A cheap way to do this is to go foraging in your local park or forest for some loose branches or buy a bumper bunch of eucalyptus. I added sprigs of eucalyptus to the napkin rings, filled jars with it and added it to my wreaths made with foraged leaves. If you fancy a wreath or two but don’t have the time to make one then Sainsbury’s Home do a similar one with twinkly lights from their Winter’s Cabin range.
