Digitise Your Lettering Workshop – Saturday 12th May
When: Saturday 12th May @ 10:30am – 12:45pm.
Where: West Elm, Westfield, Ariel Way, London W12 7GF.
You may be a budding typographer or attended one of our lettering workshops already. If you’ve been left wanting to take your skills to the next level and move forward in applying them in different ways and even make money from them, then there’s no better way than learning how to digitise your hand lettering. You’ll get concentrated attention in between demos with this intimate class of just 6. This allows for questions specific to the kind of lettering you’re working as well as the level you’re at. Alongside this you’ll also receive detailed guide sheets to work from and take away at the end of the evening.
Teri will take you through the basics using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, starting from scanning or photographing your work to creating a print or web ready digital piece. You’ll learn how to create letter layers, colour overlays, how to tidy up and reformat your letters, how to fill letter shapes with pattern or texture, place text over photographs or pair with fonts, as well as how to create vector shapes that can be easily enlarged with no loss of quality. You’ll learn how to work to retain a hand finished look and in contrast, how to work to a flat graphic look.
This session is pitched to those with no or some experience in Adobe programs. By the end of the session we want you to go away confident to apply your new found skills to your love of lettering, giving you so many possibilities for application, whether that be web headers, logos, wedding stationery, greetings cards, laser cuts or signage. Having said this, all of the skills you learn can also be applied to illustrations and designs so you’ll have a useful base to work from by the time you leave.
In order to do the class you will need to have with you:
A charged laptop with Photoshop and Illustrator or Creative Cloud. You can often download trial versions of these if you don’t yet have them.
An image scanned or photographed of your lettering at 260 dpi resolution or above, along with any textured images or photographs in digital format that you’d like to play with on the night.
PLEASE NOTE: Tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable. This is an e-ticket – please bring with you the email confirmation on your phone (no hardcopy ticket will be posted). Although accidents are rare, the ink is black and may not come out of clothes so please dress accordingly!
