Swipe for a journey back through time. Hello studi Swipe for a journey back through time. Hello studio progression 👋🏻 I have to say I’m looking forward to my next studio space...’space’ being the operative word.
1. Current set up at the in-laws. A corner of our bedroom
2. My studio just before moving out of London.
3. Just after completing my previous studio and relishing the fact I had space to pack away products and materials
4. The dining room table in our old Victorian terrace. Not ideal.
5. My studio inside a cupboard, just as I started running my business full time...cosy 😉

I’m not the best at promoting my online shop at I’m not the best at promoting my online shop at the best of times but I’ve been particularly rubbish lately. Even the word ‘promoting’ makes me cringe 😬 Anyone else? But I know I need to get over myself and remind you all that I have an online shop full of affordable art prints, notebooks and paper doll kits and I think you might like them 😉 Every product begins it’s life as a hand painted design and is packed by yours truly in sustainable, recyclable packaging (aside from my postal tube lids, if you know of a good alternative I’m all ears) plus each time someone orders I do a little happy dance but you’ll have to just take my word for it on that one 🎉 Head to the link in my bio to shop #shopthelovelydrawer

I hold my hands up and confess I was very judgemen I hold my hands up and confess I was very judgemental of mamas before I actually became one. I was even quite judgey when I had just one little person to think about but having Lars has certainly flung all of those notions out of the window and I’ve had to eat a huge slice of humble pie.
.
One thing I particularly disliked was seeing toddlers wondering around in the daytime, sucking their dummy. Why keep your kid from talking and expressing themselves properly? Why create that comfort crutch when they’re just awake and exploring? Why baby them? Why deal with tantrums by shoving a dummy in their mouth?
.
Maggie was always more than happy just having her dummy to fall asleep with but Lars is a lover of comforts and so his blanket and dummy became’ permanent fixtures in ‘awake time early on. I tried really hard to keep it just for bedtime but this boy’s scream was SO intense it would even sometimes trigger my PTSD symptoms and leave my body frozen on the floor, swimming in flashbacks and darkness. For my own sanity I’ve had to give in a lot because in his tricky seasons, a contented boy has been more important for my mental health than my ideals. Sadly I noticed that all that sucking seemed to be effecting his teeth and he was getting more fired up when I wasn’t giving one to him so I decided we just needed to take the plunge & do away with them unless it’s sleep time or he’s in some kind of extreme, A&E-worthy pain.
.
Yesterday was a promising start but soon escalated and I had almost a whole park trip having to hold a screaming Lars shouting, ‘Dummmyyy, dummmmyyy!’ This was followed by a post-nap half hour tantrum with him rolling around on the floor and hitting his head against a wall. I stayed by him, tried to tell him that I could see it was hard and I was there for him...along with Bob the builder.
.
Day 2 has been more successful for Nick and I know that our experience has been persistence pays off when establishing a new routine but if anyone has any tips from experience then do let me know in the comments. I saw someone snipped more and more off the dummies gradually so that in the end the toddler rejected because they didn’t work anymore 😆

Happy Birthday to this amazing man! He’s carried Happy Birthday to this amazing man! He’s carried so much weight on his shoulders the last year and has not only supported me with very little help but had to do that whilst being a Dad and working through his own deep hurt and pain. I’ve watched God grow him in huge ways through intense suffering, as we’ve been wading through abuse of all kinds, past and present. He’s been my partner in truth telling, bringing darkness into light and he’s learnt to be my biggest advocate and become the same for numerous other women. 33 was in many ways the worst of your life but through tears and heartbreak it has made you more like Jesus. Praying that 34 brings you some form of rest and healing. After two lockdown birthdays, perhaps the next will be different.

Maggie asked me to draw her a mermaid to colour in Maggie asked me to draw her a mermaid to colour in and Lars asked for a tractor. She coloured her entire mermaid bright pink and the first colour Lars reached for was blue. I couldn’t help laughing at this completely unprompted scene of gender stereotypes.
.
The other day Lars wouldn’t stop shouting ‘digger, digger, digger!’ So we asked if he really liked diggers and Maggie responded with ‘well I like princesses and unicorns!’ She also refuses to wear anything other than dresses or skirts, whilst her trousers and leggings sit sadly in the corner of her drawer gathering dust. We’ve never encouraged this and yet there they are...two, adorable clichés. #maggiemysweetheart #littlelarsespen
