new years eve feature

New Year’s Eve Inspo

Christmas day has flown by, we are emerging from the hazy boxing day slump and attentions turn to New Year’s Eve. If you’re planning a big banquet or intimate soiree I thought I’d dish up some inspiration to help plan and style your evening.

The bonus of keeping things rustic is that perfection really isn’t necessary. Mix lots of textures and mix and match your table ware. Why not collect any old candle holders to house tall tapered candles, scatter foliage, dried or foraged on the tables and why not try this sweet idea of tree off cuts in jars of water to decorate the room. For minimum hosting effort, prepare a laid back cheese board, piled high with interesting, fruits, herbs, jams and chocolate to mix with the cheese. Cosy and inviting!

If you’e a fan of something a little more theatrical and dramatic make a real feature of the table centre. Why not pop a little gift and fun confetti on everyone’s chair using this clever star wrapping technique and give your guests something decadent to keep them fed and watered. These stylish cocktails and tasty chocolate caramels are perfect for this vibe!

gin & tonic marshmallows

Maybe it’s just me but doesn’t everyone own a white table cloth and table ware. You’re already halfway there! This minimal look means clear clutter and make sure there’s plenty of space on the table, perhaps with small hints of greenery here and there. I love these clever ways to display candles! Perhaps get guests chatting by leaving cards at their place settings with room to write their favourite moment from 2018 and their goals for 2019. Indulge their sweet tooth with these gourmet marshmallows, a dessert that can be made in advance for minimal faff on the night.
